Ysleta ISD amends student code of conduct to add timeline for emergency expulsions

The Ysleta Independent School District board approved revisions to the 2025–26 student code of conduct on Aug. 27, delegating to the superintendent authority to make further legal updates.
Chief Counsel Priscilla Mata told trustees she recommended two edits before adoption: removing a second, duplicative paragraph on board packet page 142 and inserting the numeral 10 into the emergency‑expulsion timeline on page 152 so the policy reads that the student will be given required due process “within a reasonable amount of time after the emergency expulsion, but no later than 10 calendar days.” Mata said the insertion maintains clarity about the timeline for hearings in emergency expulsion cases.
Trustees voted to adopt the code of conduct as amended and delegated to the superintendent the authority to make technical changes required by law. The motion passed 7‑0.
Mata advised that individual personnel matters arising from audit findings (discussed elsewhere in the meeting) are typically handled in closed session, and she suggested the board set a closed‑session agenda item to review audit‑related personnel issues in more detail.
The revised student code of conduct and related implementation materials will be circulated to campuses and aligned with the district's telecommunication policy and enforcement guidance.
