The Portage Township Schools Board on July 28 approved renewing its workers’ compensation administrative services contract with JWF for three years and endorsed an optional 24/7 nurse triage phone service intended to provide registered-nurse guidance to employees who experience workplace injuries.
District staff said the flat administrative fee is $20,500 annually and that the new 24/7 triage service connects employees to a registered nurse by phone for immediate assessment and next-step guidance. Staff described the per-call triage fee as $24.07, and said employees may call the service and then contact the district’s human resources office with the nurse’s guidance.
Why it matters: the triage option is intended to provide prompt medical advice that may help employees determine whether they need higher-level care and to document initial guidance for the district’s workers’ compensation process.
The board approved the contract renewal by motion and roll call; the attorney reviewed the agreement prior to board action, staff said.
