The Economic Development Authority on June 16 approved a $15,000 small-business enhancement assistance award from Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District No. 3 for Tile House, a new interior-design and specialty-tile shop at 102 South Main Street.
The award covers part of a $32,000 project to replace the building’s exterior siding, repair a rotted deck and railings, install new signage and stone at the base of the facade, and otherwise align the storefront with Main Street improvements. Brady Moore, staff presenting the item, said, “This is, for a new business that's coming in at 102 South Main Street.”
Kylie (applicant) described Tile House as an interior-design selection center that allows customers to “plug and play elements, colors, paint” on a display and called the proposed storefront “Pinterest in real life for them.” She said the interior work is largely complete and that the exterior needs “tremendous improvements.”
The TIF committee reviewed the application and recommended approval. Moore moved to approve the application; a trustee seconded. The EDA voted 5-0 to approve the $15,000 assistance. The trustee announcing the tally said, “It's approved with a vote of 5 to 0.”
Discussion at the meeting emphasized the program’s goal of encouraging reinvestment along Main Street. A trustee said the exterior work funded by TIF dollars can “spur others in that area to invest.” The record shows only the recommendation and the final approval; no contingencies or follow-up assignments were stated on the record.
Tile House’s application used the EDA’s small-business enhancement assistance under TIF District No. 3. The applicant noted interior renovations are near inspection for code work; the EDA’s action addressed only the exterior improvement assistance amount.
The EDA’s approval clears the grant portion for Tile House to proceed with the agreed exterior improvements; the transcript does not specify permit or inspection timelines.
