The Port Hueneme City Council unanimously approved a proposed second amendment to City Manager James Vega's employment agreement on Sept. 2, extending the term of his contract by two years. A staff presenter said the city manager requested the extension and, given current budget constraints, has agreed to forgo cost-of-living and merit increases for the period of the extension.
Staff told the council that Vega underwent a performance review on July 14 that resulted in a satisfactory rating. The city attorney's office (presenting at the manager's request) described the amendment as an extension of term only; no additional salary increases were recommended or approved as part of the amendment. The council discussed the city manager's leadership and thanked him for agreeing to postpone adjustments while the city addresses fiscal constraints.
The council approved the amendment by voice vote; staff will execute the amendment and return a fully executed document for the record.
