Doug Nation of Barnes Lake introduced himself to the Lapeer County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 14 as an applicant for an upcoming vacancy on the Region 5 (regional planning/transportation) board.

Nation told the commissioners he has served on Deerfield Township’s zoning board for 30 years, on its planning commission for about six years, and on the Barnes Lake Club and Improvement Board. He said he has also worked at General Motors.

Chairman Howell said the board plans to make two appointments at the Aug. 28 meeting: Nation for the current vacancy and Rick Van Hafton for reappointment. Commissioners said they prefer members who regularly attend meetings and that Nation has a record of local planning experience.

No formal appointment was made at the Aug. 14 meeting; action is scheduled for Aug. 28.
