Flagler County School Board proclaims multiple awareness days and months, urges community participation

• Arts in Education Week: The Fitzgerald Performing Arts Center and advocates from the county’s arts community presented a proclamation recognizing September 2025 as Arts in Education Week in Flagler County Schools. The resolution highlighted arts education’s role in critical thinking, collaboration and college‑ and career‑readiness.
• Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month: The board recognized September as National Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month, urging promotion of school‑based mental‑health supports and open discussion to reduce stigma. Brandy Williams read the board’s resolution.
• Childhood Cancer Awareness Month: AdventHealth representatives read a proclamation recognizing September 2025 as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, noting the need for research, support services and public awareness.
• Fentanyl Awareness and Education Day: The board proclaimed Aug. 21, 2025, as Fentanyl Awareness and Education Day in Flagler County, citing the recent enactment of House Bill 259 and Section 683.3343 of the Florida Statutes, which designates Aug. 21 for fentanyl awareness. Presenters included Flagler Cares prevention team members and representatives of the Drug Court Foundation. Board members praised Flagler Cares for outreach at the county’s high schools and the Drug Court Foundation for supporting distribution and restocking of naloxone (Narcan) in schools.
