Fremont board approves new communications role and one-year ParentSquare contract

The Fremont City Board of Education approved two related items intended to centralize and simplify school–family communications: creation of a communications facilitator position and a one-year contract with the ParentSquare platform.
The board approved a block of personnel and program items (items 4–14), which included establishing a new communications facilitator position. “It's been something probably 4 or 5 years now that it's been kind of in the works,” a board member said during discussion of the new position, adding that most districts have a similar role to handle the volume of information now required of staff.
The board separately approved item 15, a one-year ParentSquare contract that will replace multiple existing communication platforms. Abby, presenting the superintendent’s report, described the contract as “billed as like a per pupil rate, so that price might fluctuate a tad bit every year depending on our enrollment.” The contract approval passed on a roll call vote with all members voting yes.
What the board approved: A block motion approved several personnel actions (resignations, appointments, summer program staffing, coaches and substitutes) including the new communications facilitator; then the board approved a one-year ParentSquare contract that the administration said will require staff training and will be managed by the new communications facilitator.
Formal actions and votes: The personnel block (items 4–14) passed on a motion by Miss Lewis with a second by Miss Laymon and unanimous roll-call approval. The ParentSquare contract (item 15) passed on a motion by Miss Laymon with a second by Mister Nalley and unanimous roll-call approval.
Why it matters: District leaders said consolidating platforms into a single, staffed system should reduce confusion for families and centralize messaging for athletics, classroom notifications and the website. The per-pupil pricing model means the annual cost will vary with enrollment, and staff will require training to migrate to the new system.
Implementation notes: The administration indicated there will be a training period for staff and that more information will be provided as the district transitions to the platform.
