Council members used the meeting’s committee-report portion to highlight several community items: the Cemetery Walk event, library programs and a fundraiser, updates from the utility commission, and FEMA approval for a restroom project.
Council member (Historic Preservation) announced Cemetery Walk on Sept. 13 with ticketing information and said tickets are available at the Chamber of Commerce. Library board updates noted active programs with room for participants, a successful fundraiser that drew an estimated 150 cars and roughly 500 attendees, and an upcoming "spark session" on July 31 for community input on improvements to a new facility.
The utility commission reported on its June 16 regular meeting: the commission is accepting applications for fiber line workers and a communications technician; Adam Favia was recognized for five years of service; a youth apprentice from the Reedsburg School District joined the fiber crew; and Baker Tilly presented the 2024 audit with a clean opinion, indicating a strong financial position. Utility staff also reported work on transmission-line upgrades and completion of the water portion of Second Street.
Separately, a council member said FEMA approval had been obtained for a restroom project; construction has started and staff credited outreach to Senator Tammy Baldwin’s office for securing the approval. The council expressed hope the facility would be usable before the end of the farmers market season.
