Board adopts model electronic-device policy (GAB) after 30-day comment period

The Grand County School District Board of Education voted on Aug. 13 to adopt the district—s electronic devices usage policy (GAB), selecting the Utah School Boards Association model policy as the district standard after a 30-day public posting produced no comments.
A staff presenter told the board the policy is the USBA model and meets state requirements while allowing each campus to adopt procedures that fit local needs without returning to the board for procedural adjustments. ‘‘This policy is just basically the model policy … the minimum requirement,’’ a staff member said.
A motion to approve policy GAB was moved and seconded; the motion passed by voice vote with all present board members voting in favor (4–0). The board noted that campus-level procedures may differ and that administrative implementation does not require board-level action for each campus procedure.
