Board approves purchase of two buses; district plans to buy four this year

The Fremont City Schools board voted unanimously to approve the purchase of two school buses that the district already budgeted to add to the transportation fleet.
Superintendent Denise Hirt told the board the purchases were part of a multiyear replacement cycle developed with Director of Facilities and Operations Mister Anway and district staff. "Last year ... we actually created a multiyear cycle for the purchasing of those items for transportation," Hirt said. She said the district had set aside dollars and felt confident the purchases fit within the approved budget.
Hirt also said the district is "hoping to purchase four buses this year" and expects to receive two at the start of the school year and two later in the year to spread the expense and begin replacing older vehicles.
The motion to approve item 1 (two buses) was made by Miss Layman and seconded by Miss Lewis. Roll call showed all five board members voting yes and the motion passed.
Board members emphasized the expense and planning required for fleet maintenance and replacement and said returning to a planned cycle would improve operations and reduce reliance on older buses.
No contract award details (vendor names or purchase prices) were stated on the public agenda during the discussion; the superintendent and facilities director said the purchases are budgeted.
