Board hears security, nursing and technology updates; student ID enforcement to be tightened

The board received updates from the Health, Safety and Technology Committee on security procedures, nursing operations and technology readiness for the coming school year, and agreed to tighten ID-lanyard enforcement at the high school. Committee Chair Miss Continenza reported the security coordinator reviewed instructions for managing window and door shades during a lockdown or shelter-in-place. The district attended bomb-threat training at OCC and plans a districtwide safety drill in October. The nursing supervisor reported updated medical forms, work on registration and physicals, and raised the possibility of placing choking devices in each building pending policy review. On technology, the business administrator said special education rooms are being wired and ordered equipment for the high school. High school students will be required to wear student ID badges on lanyards; high school administrators will produce an expectations document to be shared with parents, staff and students. The committee tasked the nursing supervisor to gather additional information on choking-device availability and to draft a proposed policy for future committee review. The technology and safety items remain in the information-and-implementation stage; the board did not take separate formal votes on the individual safety practices beyond accepting the committee reports. The committee's next meeting is scheduled for Aug. 21.
