A city staff member told the Bike‑Ped Advisory Committee that the board has approved removing Free Birds Lane from VDOT maintenance and that the street will be converted to a park.

The staff member said improvements will be phased in over time “as funding and everything else is true,” and that the corridor is no longer a pilot: “It's not a pilot anymore. It's staying.”

The committee heard no ordinance citation or formal vote during the meeting; the statement about removal from VDOT maintenance and conversion to parkland was presented as a staff update and will require standard implementation steps and funding to add amenities over time.

BPAC members acknowledged the update and moved on to other staff items.
