During the Aug. 19 public comment period, Fort Atkinson resident John House (104 Jefferson Street) asked the city to address invasive purple loosestrife growing along the river edge, describing areas from the swimming pool road downstream to the marina where he and family members had been removing the plant and urging professional treatment.

House said the plants should be cut, sprayed and the flowers burned to prevent seed return, and he referenced guidance from the State of Wisconsin. He said he has 25–30 years of experience dealing with the species and offered to speak with staff about locations and treatment approaches. The council did not take action on the comment; the public comment period closed after his remarks.
