At public comment the committee heard from James Rockoff of Oceanside, California, who said he had complained to the American Nurses Credentialing Center about a continuing education course titled Certificate in Energy Medicine. "The class endorses imaginary anatomy and physiology, including a 7 layered aura with different colors, each layer attached to a different chakra," Rockoff said. He said nurses who take the course in California receive continuing-education units and warned that misleading accreditation could prompt clinicians to offer treatments that are unsupported.
Executive Officer Loretta Melby acknowledged the comment and told Rockoff the board would review the matter. "Please follow-up with that email and that communication, and we will take a look into the continuing education provider and the course that's being offered that you have concerns with," Melby said.
Rockoff provided a postal address for further correspondence and said he would follow up by email and mail. Committee staff did not announce any formal enforcement action at the meeting; they said they would investigate the continuing-education provider and course based on his complaint.
The comment was recorded during the meeting's public-comment period; no board motion or vote followed the statement.
