Committee members were informed May 30 that an advisory committee member had notified staff they no longer wished to serve. "The person that resigned was a vice chair and so one of the sections on this agenda is to appoint the vice chair," Board Executive Officer Loretta Melby said. Staff said attempts to reach the departing member were unsuccessful.

Melby explained the recruitment process for replacements: BRN staff will post the vacancy, email interested parties, and the recruitment period typically closes within about 10 days; applications are reviewed by BRN staff and the executive officer, who makes recommendations to the advisory committee; final appointment is ratified at the board meeting (Melby said the next board meeting is in November).

The committee then conducted elections. Samantha Polakowski nominated Sandra Bordy for chair; Bordy accepted. Kathleen Theobald nominated Polakowski for vice chair; Polakowski accepted. The committee moved and seconded the combined appointment, and the roll-call vote recorded Samantha Polakowski, Kathleen Theobald and Sandra Bordy each voting in favor. The committee chair declared the motion carried and Sandra Bordy assumed the chair role.

Committee members also discussed continuity: Melby said the advisory committee is not a statutorily required committee and follows an internal appointment process. She said any items not completed because of quorum loss would be rescheduled.

The committee did not take other personnel actions at the May 30 meeting; staff will proceed with recruitment documentation and with board ratification in November if a candidate is selected.
