Council approves expanding Social Services Commission from five to seven members

The City Council voted unanimously Sept. 2 to introduce and adopt an ordinance amending section 276.06 of the codified ordinances to expand the Social Services Commission from five to seven members. Mayor Cook called the roll and the ordinance was accepted 7–0. The expansion is intended to make it more likely the commission can achieve the four-member quorum needed for action; staff said interview and appointment scheduling will proceed with the larger membership and that appointments are planned for the Sept. 22 meeting. Councilmembers discussed whether to set a minimum and maximum membership range but were told the proposed ordinance establishes a fixed seven-member size. No amendments were made during the meeting.
