Henrico Area Mental Health update: 344 New Kent residents served; mobile unit and new nurse practitioner planned

Henrico Area Mental Health & Developmental Services told the New Kent County Board of Supervisors on Aug. 11 that 344 county residents received services last fiscal year and the agency is adding a nurse practitioner and a mobile unit focused on pregnant and parenting women.
Lori Tidy, executive director of Henrico Area Mental Health and Developmental Services, presented an update to the board on Aug. 11 describing local caseloads, staffing and program developments. Tidy said 344 New Kent residents received services in the last fiscal year, 19 emergency assessments were completed and 75 individuals were admitted through same-day access.
Tidy noted the recent hire of a nurse practitioner to prescribe medication in Providence Forge (8 hours per week) and described a new program for pregnant and parenting women that expands services across New Kent, Charles City and Henrico using opioid abatement funds and a planned mobile unit to reach residents with limited transportation. She said the program will continue next year and the county will seek opioid-abatement funding to support a staff position that will operate the mobile unit.
The agency also reported ongoing committee partnerships and community events and noted the Providence Forge office landlord is changing but services will remain available in that location. Tidy and her staff offered to meet with county officials and assist where needed.
