The Athens Shade Tree Commission approved a pollinator-yard permit for a property on Elliot Street.

Commission members reviewed the submitted materials, including a hand-drawn site map and a plant list. The applicant had completed the application and the commission confirmed that the required fee would be collected before final approval is issued. Commissioners noted the application excluded plants that fruit in winter and commended the applicant’s preparation.

A motion to accept the permit passed by voice vote; the permit will not be finalized until the commission’s office confirms receipt of the application fee.

Commissioners said they will follow up to ensure the fee is paid and then issue the permit and noted staff will provide guidance on acceptable species listed on the Shade Tree Commission website for future applicants.
