Council hears about tax sale and sheriff sale notices; borough to ensure liens are recorded

A staff member reported that the borough received several notices for properties in Clifton Heights scheduled for upset (tax) sale and notices for sheriff sales. The staff member said the borough is reviewing the liens it holds on those properties and will submit lien information to the sheriff to protect the borough's claims. The staff member explained that purchasers at the upset sale take properties subject to mortgages, judgments and liens, so many properties do not transfer at upset sale and instead proceed to a judicial sale in May when purchases can be free and clear. "Not a lot of properties sell at the upset sale because purchasers take it subject to, mortgages, judgments, liens," the staff member said. Staff presented this as an administrative update and said they will ensure that the borough's liens are filed for the sheriff's sale. No formal council action was recorded at the meeting.
