Blue Earth County commissioners on Aug. 19 voted to adopt planning commission recommendations on four land-use matters: an interim use permit for a home-occupation upholstery business, an interim use permit to extend season and hours for Tommy Gun Paint Wars, preliminary and final plat approval for a one-lot subdivision (Maplewood Court), and an ordinance amendment updating farm-winery standards. County zoning staff presented each item and noted no public opposition during the planning commission hearings.
John Considine, county zoning administrator, summarized staff findings for each matter and said the planning commission forwarded unanimous recommendations for board approval. The land-use items and board actions were:
- PC 16-25: Todd and Gwen Walters requested an interim use permit to operate a Level 1 home-occupation upholstery business at 53941 180 Eighth Street in the Rapidan Reservoir shoreland. The property is zoned conservation. The planning commission recommended approval on the findings and conditions prepared by staff; the board approved by motion.
- PC 18-25: Applicant Thomas Strangy requested to replace an existing conditional use permit with an interim use permit to extend the season and hours of Tommy Gun Paint Wars from an April–September, 8 a.m.–9 p.m. schedule to year-round, 7 a.m.–midnight. The property is zoned agricultural at 48306 230 Fifth Street. Planning commission recommended approval; the board adopted the resolution.
- PC 19-25: Tyler and Bethany Olsen requested preliminary and final plat approval for Maplewood Court, a one-lot subdivision at 1344 Maplewood Drive within the urban fringe of the city of Mankato. Planning commission recommended approval; the board approved the resolution.
- PC 17-25: Planning staff proposed an ordinance amendment to Section 24-325 of the Blue Earth County Code updating farm-winery standards and clarifying allowable associated uses. Planning commission discussed wastewater and food-preparation implications and forwarded a unanimous recommendation; the board approved the ordinance amendment resolution.
For each item the board noted the planning commission had received no public comment at its hearings and approved staff-prepared conditions and findings. Actions were routine approvals of the planning commission recommendations; no board member requested further studies or referrals.
