Two parents used public comment time to urge the Jordan School District Board of Education to re-examine the district’s handling of a reported locker-room incident at West Jordan High School, alleging that administrators delayed reporting to law enforcement and that imposed sanctions were insufficient.
A parent described an incident reported in September 2024 in which a West Jordan High student said he was held down in a boys’ locker room and subjected to non-consensual contact. The parent told the board the incident was initially classified by school staff as “horseplay” and that the family was told the school would not notify law enforcement. The speaker said a Title IX investigation opened in October and extended through the end of the school year, during which the family felt the victim lacked protection and the accused students continued extracurricular participation.
Both commenters said the district’s concluding discipline was minor (four-day suspension and exclusion from a small number of athletic events), and that a mutual no-contact directive gave the impression of treating the victim and accused equally. They asked the board to ensure timely investigations, mandatory reporting, preservation of evidence, proportionate discipline, and improved communication with parents. Public commenters also said criminal charges had been filed subsequently in juvenile court.
Board members did not take an action during public comment, but staff and the board heard requests to review investigation timing and compliance with district policies and federal Title IX guidance. The speakers said they would make themselves available to district leaders for further information; the board directed staff to follow up as appropriate.
