Superintendent announces board resignation, donor gift and staffing update

Superintendent Meg told the board that Board member Will Shader submitted a letter of resignation effective Aug. 22 after winning admission to law school at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. "Will has submitted his letter of resignation effective August 22," Meg said, and the board noted plans to fill the vacancy under state rules later in the meeting.

Meg also announced a $30,000 donation from Stevens Point resident Thomas Newton to build a small playground outside the kindergarten classrooms at MacDill Elementary School. "Thomas is a Stevens Point resident that has graciously donated $30,000 for construction of a small playground on the north side of MacDill Elementary School," she said.

On staffing, the superintendent reported 35 new hires so far — roughly 30 teachers, three social workers/counselors, one nurse and one speech‑language pathologist — and described several remaining openings: one teaching vacancy (a reading teacher at Ben Franklin), 14 special‑education EA positions and three regular‑education EA positions. She outlined staff onboarding and in‑service dates in August and September and reminded board members of upcoming events and deadlines, including the WASB fall meeting and the September 15 deadline to submit resolutions to WASB via the local board.

The board did not take additional formal action during the superintendent report; later in the meeting members approved a process and timeline for filling Shader's seat.
