Town council schedules public hearing, vote on tax rate for Sept. 16

Town staff told council that property valuations this year "have just not gone up as much as the previous years" and that, if the council kept the tax rate the same as in 2024, the town's tax revenue would increase by about $36,000. "Over 200,000. This year, the valuations have just not gone up as much as the previous years. If we were to keep the tax rate the same as 2024, our increase in tax revenues would be about 36,000," a staff member said while briefing the council.
The staff presentation was informational; a councilmember moved to set the hearing time and date, another member seconded the motion, and council members voted in favor. The motion recorded in the meeting log was: "I move that we set the public hearing on the tax rate and the meeting to vote on the proposed tax rate, to be set for 09/16/2025 at 05:30PM." The motion was seconded and carried on an affirmative voice vote.
The public hearing will give residents an opportunity to comment before council votes on the proposed rate at the scheduled meeting. The council did not adopt a tax rate at this session; it only set the hearing and the subsequent vote.
