Belton ISD officials on Aug. 18 told trustees that the majority of Proposition A projects from the 2022 bond are complete and in closeout, while several final mechanical, electrical and plumbing priorities remain at five older campuses and in the natatorium project.
Mike Morgan provided a construction update: major additions and renovations at Belton High School, Lake Belton Middle and Southwest Elementary are finished and in final commissioning/financial closeout. He said the district has realized approximately $4.8 million in buyback savings, unspent contingencies and allowances from guaranteed maximum price contracts.
Morgan acknowledged delays at the Delta facility but said crews completed subcontractor work, polished concrete and expected furniture deliveries the week after the meeting; final commissioning and punch-list items were slated to follow and staff training on specialized equipment would occur before students occupy the building. Morgan said transportation and other non-construction program elements (bus purchases and technology work) remain part of Proposition B follow-up work.
Upcoming MEP work includes HVAC replacements or upgrades at five campuses named in the consent agenda and LED lighting at Lakewood Elementary and Belton Middle School; the natatorium HVAC equipment was ordered and scheduled to ship Sept. 15 with installation to follow. Morgan said the bond team has been meeting regularly and believes savings plus interest earnings and remaining funds will allow the district to complete promised projects.
Trustees and the facilities committee thanked staff for regular reporting and acknowledged the patience required during multi-year construction and inflationary pressure on costs.
