First Street CDBG sidewalk project design finished; funding shortfall prompts supplemental grant request

Cloverdale staff told the Public Works subcommittee that design, specifications and an engineer’s estimate for the First Street sidewalk project are complete but that current CDBG funds do not fully cover the expected construction cost. "The design and specs, estimate is all complete," said a staff member, adding that Coastland requested an anticipated start date. Staff reported the CDBG allocation is roughly $75,000 short of the construction estimate and that they have submitted a funding application to the Sonoma County Transportation Authority (SCTA) to bridge the gap.
Why it matters: the project would add sidewalk where curb currently exists and improve ADA access near the overpass. Staff emphasized that the CDBG allocation was never expected to cover the entire construction cost and that the subcommittee must determine when and how to supplement funding before scheduling a construction start.
Next steps: staff will continue to pursue SCTA funding in the upcoming round and return to the subcommittee with final funding decisions and a construction timeline. No contract awards or construction start dates were approved at the meeting.
