Mayor Todd Lands and the Cloverdale City Council on Aug. 13 proclaimed August 2025 as National Health Center Week and recognized Alexander Valley Healthcare for its service to the community.
The proclamation says community health centers serve “over 32.5 million Americans” and “provide a health care home to 1 in 10 people in the United States,” and it names Alexander Valley Healthcare as Cloverdale's primary local health center.
Why it matters: Council members highlighted the role of local health centers in providing primary, behavioral and dental care to medically underserved residents in rural and isolated communities such as Cloverdale.
At the meeting, Ricardo Adam, civic engagement project manager at Allianos Health, told the council that community health centers “are more than clinics. They are lifelines for our most vulnerable neighbors.” He described how a community health center helped him after he arrived in Sonoma County and said the centers “restore humanity.”
Debbie Howell, chief executive officer of Alexander Valley Healthcare, thanked the council for the recognition. “It is an honor and a privilege to serve this community,” Howell said.
Council members thanked Alexander Valley Healthcare staff and volunteer board members for expanding local access to care. One council member told the center’s representatives, “You’re a staple in this community,” and urged continued partnership.
No formal action beyond the proclamation was taken. The proclamation is dated 08/13/2025 and encourages community participation in National Health Center Week events, including visiting Alexander Valley Healthcare.
Community context: Speakers emphasized access challenges in geographically isolated parts of northern Sonoma County and framed the health center as a partner for residents including seniors, veterans and immigrants.
Looking ahead: Council members posed for a recognition photo at the end of the presentation and thanked the center staff and volunteers for their ongoing work.
