Fostoria officials report Lytle Street ODOT project near completion and progress on tree inventory

City officials told the council the ODOT paving project on Lytle Street is substantially complete and urged council and residents to inspect the work. "A very nice smooth ride," the Safety Service Director said, adding crews still have "some pieces and parts to finish up yet." The Safety Service Director also reported progress on the city tree inventory (referred to in the meeting as the Davie tree project). As of Aug. 28, staff had reviewed 3,473 total sites, cataloged species for 2,517 trees, identified 932 planting sites, listed 24 stumps for removal and found four hazard trees and several dead limbs. The city has engaged Bottom of Tree Service to address immediate hazards as they are identified. Officials said the city had budget hearings and identified an opportunity to purchase a lightly used service truck. Staff intends to move funds from a sewer-plant fund to buy the vehicle and will present legislation at the next council meeting asking the council to approve the purchase as an emergency so the truck can be acquired promptly. The Safety Service Director said new trucks take two to three years to arrive if ordered new, so acquiring a used vehicle would accelerate deployment. Council did not take formal action on these updates during the meeting; staff said they would return with legislation on the truck purchase and continue work on the tree project and remaining pavement touches on Columbus Avenue and other roads.
