The Village of East Troy Plan Commission approved a downtown design renovation request to change the color of the cornices and decorative brackets on all four elevations of the East Troy Brewery building at 2905 Main Street.
Lauren, the staff reviewer, said the application falls under the downtown design renovation process and that the proposed color, Sherwin-Williams Iron Ore (7069), would match brick at the base of the building. She presented photographs showing a small sample patch already painted on the southwest back corner to demonstrate the color and effect.
Applicant Lance Rosenmayer of East Troy Holdings LLC said the goal is to make the building “pop a little more” and add visual interest to the top of the building. Lauren had included examples of nearby buildings that have used color on bracket details and explained the applicable code language requiring exterior colors to be compatible and harmonious with surrounding buildings.
The commission asked whether the applicant would accept the two conditions in Oren’s report; Rosenmayer agreed. A motion to approve the renovation request for the East Troy Brewery, subject to conditions 1 and 2 in the packet, was seconded and the motion carried.
The item was handled within the Plan Commission’s purview—no referral to the Village Board is required for this downtown design approval. The conditions referenced in the staff report include conforming to staff comments and reimbursement for any village work if necessary.
The approved work covers painting the upper cornices and decorative brackets on all four elevations and painting the top trim on the lower portion of the building; the lower portion has no brackets, Lauren noted. The chosen color is Sherwin-Williams Iron Ore 7069, replacing the current white trim.
