Homeowners in the Grassy Branch neighborhood asked whether the county could return decorative brick pavers at a crossing on the Mary Wilson Drain as part of a maintenance project. Board staff told the Hamilton County Drainage Board on Sept. 8 that the crossing is an unpermitted encroachment and that the maintenance project budget covers the larger watershed, not private decorative improvements.
Staff said the current plans call for salvaging the brick pavers to the owner and replacing the crossing with the typical gravel/stone included in the maintenance contract. Homeowners have asked whether the county could instead put the pavers back or pave the crossing with asphalt or concrete. Staff said replacing the crossing with anything beyond the plans would require a contract change order and that the homeowners association would need to enter a contract to pay the additional cost; no agreement has been reached.
Board members queried whether the homeowners association would pay for the additional cost; staff said HOA-supplied pavers are stacked and that the county could solicit a price from the contractor. Staff will obtain pricing and report back to the board. No change order was approved at the Sept. 8 meeting.
