Parkway launches Facilities 2050 planning with steering and core committees; assessment and demographic study planned

The Parkway School District presented an update on Facilities 2050 at its June 11 meeting, describing work completed by a steering committee and next steps to produce a districtwide facilities revitalization plan.
Jason Brooks, executive director of operations, told the board Facilities 2050 was intended to align with the district strategic plan and to produce both short-term improvements and a long-range revitalization plan. Brooks said the program is already underway in smaller projects and will include a formal facilities assessment of electrical, HVAC, plumbing and other systems, a demographic study to assess changing enrollment patterns, and tours of other districts’ facilities to inform Parkway’s vision.
Brooks described two internal groups: a core committee focused on quick wins and process improvements, and a steering committee composed of board members, staff and community participants handling long-range decisions. He said Project Flex is piloting next-generation classroom furniture with teachers to inform future design choices and noted Prop S (the 2022 bond) will inform and be informed by Facilities 2050 work.
Brooks also announced the district’s incoming facilities director, Matt Ferfarro, will start July 1 and will lead the core committee. The steering committee will continue work in the coming year with the goal of producing a complete facilities revitalization plan by the end of the school year. The board offered thanks to Brooks for the presentation; there was no vote on the item.
