Gunbarrel City Police Chief Keith Stevens presented meritorious conduct awards on July 22 to Officer Ryan Mutina and Officer Chloe Danmire for their response to an attempted suicide at the Walmart at 1200 West Main on June 5, 2025.

Chief Stevens read a citation prepared by the department describing the incident: dispatch at approximately 10:00 a.m. indicated a man armed with a handgun; Officers Mutina (field-training officer) and Danmire (trainee) arrived within minutes, engaged the subject through the vehicle, and removed the man from the truck after he lowered a handgun and unlocked the door. The chief read that the officers "intervened to prevent the loss of life with complete regard to their personal safety" and that their actions "bring great credit to themselves and the Gunbarrel City Police Department."

According to the citation read into the record, the dispatch was at about 10:00 a.m., the officers were on scene and the subject was in custody by about 10:01 a.m., and investigators arrived about 10:03 a.m.; those times were stated by Chief Stevens as part of the citation reading. The citation and awards were presented in recognition of the officers' response to a critical, volatile incident.
