During the second public-comment period, Joy (last name not stated), owner of a BP gas station on Sheridan Road since 2001, invited the community to a fundraising event at her station on Aug. 1 at 9 a.m. She said one pump will be dedicated as a pink breast-cancer fundraising pump and that proceeds from that pump will be donated to the American Cancer Society for the next 10 years. Joy said the event will include free slushies, food, music and giveaways and encouraged residents to "buy from the pink pump." Several trustees and attendees responded with appreciation and personal remarks; one attendee said the event was meaningful because of a family member's breast cancer diagnosis.
Discussion versus decision: this was public comment; no board action was taken. The board did not take any formal action regarding permits, fees or village involvement during the meeting.
