State updates FFVP deadlines, LFS termination, Junior Chef winners and upcoming trainings

Marleya Finch, assistant director for the School Nutrition Division, reminded SFAs that Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) applications are due in TMAC by April 30 and asked districts with site‑eligibility questions to email the department for assistance.
Finch said the department received a termination of agreement letter for the next round of Local Food for Schools (LFS) funds and that future LFS funding is uncertain; she said the agency will share guidance if and when new funds become available. Finch also said the department and the Tennessee Department of Agriculture are working to establish a farm‑to‑school network.
She highlighted the March 7 Junior Chef competition winners: first place Ooltewah High School (zucchini ricotta manicotti), second DeKalb County (homestyle chicken pot pie) and third Morgan County (chicken veggie quesadilla with salsa and Southwest brown rice). The department said winning recipes can be used in school cafeterias and that it is collecting recipes for a possible cookbook resource.
Finch listed upcoming regional meetings, third‑year new director workshops, the S&P Academy (Sept. 16–18, Embassy Suites Cool Springs) and a planned on‑demand training library on the department's TTOP platform. She asked participants to complete a post‑call survey to help shape next year's training calendar and said the department is working to make on‑demand trainings available by month‑end.
