HILLIARD, Ohio — City staff presented the first reading of Ordinance 25-21 Aug. 25 to amend the city code regarding acceptance of performance bonds tied to public infrastructure acceptance and warranty periods. Staff said the change was prompted in part by the retirement of the previous city engineer and by a desire to align local code with common practices across Central Ohio. Under the practice described by staff, performance bonds accepted during the warranty period are commonly set at 10% of the infrastructure value, which lets developers avoid carrying larger bond amounts for an additional year. Council scheduled the second-reading public hearing for Sept. 8. No final action was taken Aug. 25; council will consider the ordinance after the public hearing.
