At the Aug. 26 special meeting the board discussed the proposed $10,000 marketing line in the 2026 draft operating plan and agreed by consensus to retain that amount while requesting clearer direction on its use.
A staff member noted the BID has spent little of the current marketing budget and asked whether the board wants the funds applied to public-facing promotion, member-focused assistance, or partnership funding with existing downtown organizations. “I guess the question is, do you want to keep the budget at 10,000?” the staff member said. Several board members suggested options: provide a portion to the downtown association for public marketing, host a marketing workshop or consultant for BID members, or support specific promotions.
Board members agreed to keep the $10,000 line for now and to revisit details later this year or at the November strategic planning session so the funds can be used effectively rather than sit unused. The board did not take a formal vote; the decision was reached by verbal consensus during discussion. Staff will reflect the consensus in the next budget draft and include usage scenarios for the board’s review.
