Brookshire — The City Council on Thursday approved a permit for a cancer-awareness walk organized by Denise Odey to take place Oct. 11, 2025, approving Route 1 and requesting assistance from the Brookshire Police Department.

Odey, owner of Taylor's Playhouse, told the council the event will begin lineup and sign-in at 9:30 a.m. with the walk running from 10 a.m. and expected to end around 1 p.m. She said last year's event drew 86 participants from Brookshire and surrounding communities including Rosenberg, Richmond and Katy.

Council moved to approve the walk and requested police assistance for traffic control and participant safety. The motion passed by voice vote.

Odey described the event as family friendly and said organizers plan refreshments and participant support during the route. The council did not set a permit fee in the discussion recorded in the minutes; organizers provided a paper route map for the council record.

Staff will coordinate with the police department on route logistics and traffic control. The council recorded no objections and encouraged the organizer to share the final route map with staff for coordination.
