Pitt County commissioners voted Aug. 18 to rezone a 3.85-acre parcel owned by Trip Holdings LLC along US 264 East from rural residential to general commercial, a move the applicant said would accommodate an addition to an adjacent dentist office and expanded parking.
Planning staff and the county planner, Jonas Hill, explained that the future land-use map identifies the area as a commercial crossroads and the parcel sits adjacent to an existing dentist office. Staff found the rezoning consistent with the Envision Pitt County 2045 land-use plan; the planning board unanimously recommended approval at its July 16 meeting.
Public comment was limited: Chris West, representing Trip Holdings as a custom building company, told the board the request is “pretty simple” and intended to support the dentist-office expansion. Commissioners closed the public hearing, adopted the consistency statement and approved the rezoning (transcript notes 'Motion passes' but does not record a roll-call tally).
Next steps: the rezoning permits the general-commercial uses allowed in the zoning district but does not authorize construction; the applicant must submit a site plan and obtain any required county and state permits before work begins.
