City procurement staff accepted the 2025 Achievement and Excellence in Procurement Award from the National Procurement Institute on Aug. 28, noting this is the city’s third consecutive year earning the honor.
“We this is our third year, receiving the National Procurement Institute's Achievement and Excellence in Procurement Award,” the staff presenter said, acknowledging procurement staff Melania Armendariz, Lisa Garcia and Debbie Felix.
The staff representative said the award recognized several program areas, including procurement ethics, transparency, professional development, performance measures, centralized procurement authority, a comprehensive purchasing‑card policy, certifications and best‑value procurement strategies. The presentation credited staff for maintaining those practices and for handling high volumes of procurement work quickly.
Why this matters: The award highlights the city’s procurement processes and signals to vendors and residents that the city maintains recognized practices for ethics, transparency and professional standards. Council members and the mayor thanked staff for their work during the meeting.
Meeting action: The award was presented during the council meeting; no formal council action was required.
