Board attests election canvass, administers oaths and names new officers

The Morton Community Unit School District 709 Board of Education received the county clerk’s canvass of the April election, attested that the tabulation was a true and accurate accounting of votes and administered oaths of office to re‑elected and newly elected board members.
At the board meeting the superintendent read the canvass item, identifying incumbents Diane Kral and Jerry Rudd as reelected and naming newly elected members as recorded in the canvass. A motion to attest the canvass passed by roll call. The board then administered the oath of office to two newly seated members: Christiana Purdy and Wes Onasorge (names as recorded and sworn during the meeting). The oath language recited public duties and compliance with state and federal constitutions.
Following the swearing‑in, the board reconstituted officers for 2025–26. Nominations were opened and, with no opposing nominations, Dr. David Cross was declared president by acclamation; Jerry Rudd was declared vice president by acclamation; and Amanda Layman was declared secretary by acclamation. The board also adopted its 2025–26 regular meeting calendar with meetings scheduled for the first Tuesday of each month, with an option to reserve the third Tuesday for special meetings.
Board members and community speakers also spoke briefly to recognize outgoing service of several members and to welcome the newly seated trustees. The board recessed for a short reception before continuing the regular agenda.
