Representatives of Tri County Tennis thanked the Morton board on Sept. 2 for letting them use Morton High School’s tennis courts for their summer tournament and asked the district to address maintenance problems that affect player safety and appearance.
Kevin Miller, president of Tri County Tennis Inc., said the organization ran a strong tournament with increased participation and that the facility makes a positive impression when maintained. He shared photographs with the board showing torn windscreens, inadequate zip-tying, surface dirt that had not been power-washed regularly, fence posts that have been rising out of the ground and a crack in Court No. 2 that produced water even on sunny days.
Miller said volunteers had installed hundreds of zip ties to secure a windscreen and that district athletic staff promptly arranged a power-wash after he raised the issue. He asked the board to consider regular maintenance practices, including annual power-washing of the courts and more robust windscreen fastening, to avoid recurring damage and a poor first impression for visiting players and spectators.
Board members thanked Miller and noted the athletic director and facilities staff had already taken some action; they asked administration to follow up on the maintenance items and thanked the tournament volunteers for leaving the courts in good shape.
