Deidre Peterson, chief executive officer of the Shelton Chamber of Commerce, briefed the council on second‑quarter visitor‑services activity funded by city and county lodging tax dollars. Peterson reported increased annual pass sales at visitor attractions, a trend toward stronger engagement per visitor and expanded outreach during downtown events.
Peterson said the chamber saw continued interest in annual passes and specialty merchandise even as foot traffic and phone inquiries fell in some locations: "The several annual passes and annual course annual passes continue to increase. And we're seeing more people opting for year round passes... we continue to see families." She described concierge efforts to flex hours and staffing for major events such as the Forest Festival and art walk.
Peterson also described capital‑style improvements to the visitor center: new LVT flooring, updated lighting and signage, self‑guided interpretive panels on local timber and railroad history, and a new kiosk that hosts the county's WildSide progressive web app. The app, Peterson said, allows visitors to download maps, find trails, lodging and businesses and enables the chamber to capture email addresses and origin data for marketing.
Councilmembers thanked the chamber for volunteer coordination and improvements and had no substantive questions. Peterson offered to follow up with partners on supply and inventory issues affecting gift sales and visitor materials.
