A representative of First Friends Indianapolis Quaker Church asked the Public Works and Safety Board on Sept. 3 for a waiver to hold an outdoor gathering on Sunday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The board approved the public-works/safety waiver.
The organizer said the event would include a few musicians, an opening and closing blessing, brief speakers and a small public-address system powered by a gas generator so attendees, including those with hearing challenges, could hear. The organizer estimated attendance at between 100 and 200 people and said volunteers would marshal traffic and direct overflow parking to a nearby park if needed.
City staff said police had been consulted and had no objections; the board moved, seconded and approved the waiver by voice vote.
