The Greenwood City Council passed Resolution 25-14 and Ordinance 25-17 to update the city’s Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance designation and municipal code language.
Councilmember Gibson, sponsor of the resolution, said the change is needed because the previous designee, James Peck, is no longer the city engineer and the council should appoint a current staff member. “The current designee is James Peck, who’s no longer city engineer,” Gibson said. “Under resolution 25-14, you will be appointing John Grimes, who is project manager with the Department of Community Development Services.”
Ordinance 25-17 amends the Greenwood Municipal Code in chapter 2, article 10 to modify the ADA policy statement and to make the ADA coordinator designation follow the city engineer role rather than a specific named person. Gibson and other councilmembers said that even if the ordinance is adopted it will remain John Grimes until a different city engineer is appointed or hired.
The council suspended the rules to expedite consideration; both the resolution and the ordinance passed on unanimous votes in the sessions recorded at this meeting (each passed 6-0). The action updates the city’s internal designation and the municipal code language; council minutes show staff will implement the change and reflect the new ADA coordinator in city records.
