At the Aug. 19 meeting, public commenter TJ Peterson urged the council to increase community engagement around a 10‑acre parcel on Meeker Street that the city issued requests for proposals to develop. "Somebody wants to move industrial manufacturing downtown... I think there should have probably been more community discussion," Peterson said, adding that three RFPs were issued — two to buy the property and one for a long‑term lease — and asking why the proposals did not include a housing component given the city's housing needs.
Council member Larimer, who chairs economic and community development matters, said the council received an informational preview of the Rediscover Downtown plan earlier in the evening and that a full workshop discussion is scheduled for Sept. 16. Larimer said the Rediscover Downtown work will include foot‑traffic data and other patterns useful to planning downtown uses.
Peterson said the downtown parcel has a history of community use and past development plans, referenced past property deals and questioned whether adequate public outreach occurred before the RFPs. He asked council members to take a public stance on the proposals or to ensure more visible public engagement if the deals are not yet concluded.
The meeting record shows no council vote or formal action on the Meeker RFPs that night. Larimer encouraged the public to tune into the September workshop for a fuller discussion and data presentation.
