Palo Duro restaurant and pool renovation progresses; grease trap and pool work next

Parks and Recreation Director Jessica Kume updated the council Sept. 3 on renovations at Palo Duro, reporting completed office renovations and courtyard work and identifying remaining steps necessary for restaurant and pool re-opening.
Kume said four office spaces had been renovated and are ready for lease, the courtyard pavers were removed and replaced with regraded concrete, HVAC units for the restaurant were installed, a new accessible entry ramp was built and restrooms were updated. She said the project team has received the grease trap equipment and that once the grease trap is installed they will proceed with pool renovations.
Why it matters: The Palo Duro site includes a restaurant, a pool and community meeting spaces; reopening those facilities and leasing office space are part of the city’s plan to increase programming and revenue. Kume said the pool contractor typically completes work in a month once the grease trap is in place.
Next steps and timeline: Remaining tasks are installation of the grease trap, fire alarm and gas service to the restaurant; pool renovation will follow. Staff said they will prepare an RFP for tenant selection for the restaurant once these steps are complete and will maintain city operation of the pool and assign the restaurant to a tenant under a lease that will be returned to council for approval.
