Ruth said the office handled 75 open claims as of July and filed a range of forms across benefit categories in the previous fiscal year, including disability claims, pensions and healthcare claims. She reported that 419 veterans and eligible family members received $812,880 in June, and highlighted the office’s use of an electronic portal for secure form submission and signatures to speed processing.
The office also published outreach articles on veterans’ pensions and warnings about predatory “pension poachers,” and participated in local events such as a back‑to‑school resource fair to reach younger veterans. Ruth said intent‑to‑file submissions remain important as placeholders while veterans determine the benefit types they will pursue and that staff proactively contacts those filers before the placeholder expires.
Supervisors thanked the Veterans Affairs staff for the report and asked for annual comparisons going forward; Ruth said she intends to present similar fiscal‑year summaries each year.
