Board approves final plans for Channelworth Bridge; public works showcases new equipment training

The Jackson County Board of Supervisors voted Aug. 19 to approve final plans for the Channelworth Bridge replacement so the project can meet a November letting date.
County Engineer Jaden Shackle told the Board that all required right‑of‑way had been acquired and “plans have proceeded, and in order for us to hit November letting final plans are due today, and they are here. Done. Ready for your three's approval and signature.” The Board moved and approved the final plans for the bridge, with the Chair announcing, “Aye. Motion carries.”
Shackle also reported on a training exercise using a newly acquired Caterpillar excavator with a mulching head on Rockdale Road. He said crews were running the equipment under controlled lane closures, using stop‑light trailers for traffic control. “We are... providing the training right now to our staff,” he said and invited supervisors to observe the equipment in operation after the meeting.
Engineering staff noted the bridge plan number shown on the documents and referenced the DOT bridge identifier used in project records; the Board approved the plans and directed signatures so the project can advance to the letting process. The county’s public‑works update included routine utility permits and construction coordination related to ongoing road maintenance.
