The East Bethel City Council on Aug. 25 approved pay estimate No. 1 for the 2025 Street Surface Improvement Project, which staff identified in the meeting as the Taylor Street overlay and curb work near the golf course and Ben Haven.

A council member had asked for clearer descriptions on payment estimates, saying packet materials lacked a description of which specific projects were included. City staff responded: "I believe this is the Taylor Street project that we're working on right now, the overlay and curb work that's being done by the golf course. I believe that is this 1. Okay. This is the first payment on that," and said the payment represents an early draw on funds set aside for road work.

Staff told the council the city sets aside roughly $600,000 annually for road work and that the payment amount on this project represents about a year-and-a-half of those annual savings; staff described the project's total cost as "about 1,000,000 roughly." The council member asked staff to label future pay estimates more clearly; staff agreed to do so.

A council member moved to approve item D. The motion was seconded and the council voted in favor. The council did not amend the scope or funding at the meeting.

The council did not provide an exact dollar figure for pay estimate No. 1 in the meeting packet; staff said they would correct labeling in future reports.
