MILLS COUNTY, Aug. 18, 2025 — During commissioner requests and the county judge's report, the Mills County Commissioner's Court heard updates on road maintenance, solar farm inquiries and emergency medical services mutual-aid.
Roads and maintenance
Commissioners reported ongoing road work across the county. Commissioner Sutter said crews were hauling material to complete work on Blaine Road. Commissioner Barton reported work on County Road 545 outside Holland, including placement of rock base and other repairs. Commissioners noted tree removal and other routine maintenance tasks were ongoing.
Solar projects and court proceedings
Commissioner Williams said he had met with several people in the last week about solar farm projects and had attended two court proceedings. Williams also thanked staff, noting one court matter involved a child-protection case where he praised the work of county personnel.
Scheduling and absences
Williams reminded the court he would be out part of Wednesday and all of Thursday and Friday to move his twins into college.
EMS mutual aid and response time
In the county judge's report the judge described questions raised about EMS mutual-aid from nearby systems. The judge said he spoke with Dana Allison and reported a recorded response time of "16 minutes and 32 seconds" for a specific call that had been questioned. The judge said mutual-aid vehicle availability and multiple calls in the system contributed to the response delay.
Why it matters
Road maintenance updates indicate where county crews are prioritizing work and may affect travel for residents. EMS response times are a public-safety concern; the judge's comments identify mutual-aid pressures as a factor in the specific response time discussed.
Next steps
Commissioners and county staff will continue road projects and follow up on solar project inquiries as they develop. The judge indicated the county will continue to monitor EMS mutual-aid arrangements and response metrics.
