Corte Madera Parks and Recreation staff told the Parks and Recreation Commission on Aug. 25 that fall program registration is strong, a Town Park playground grant was awarded and that one tennis court at Granada Park is closed pending repairs.
Director Tim (last name not recorded in the transcript) said fall enrichment registration stood at 885 enrollments as of the prior Friday and that the childcare program is operating near capacity: kindergarten full‑day had 20 children and grades 1–5 showed 72 enrolled, averaging about 82 attendees per day. Staff reported increasing scholarship requests and said they were working with the school district and other partners to accommodate need.
The department announced it had been awarded a grant through PlayCore as part of the California Park & Recreation Society healthy initiative; the grant covers a 50% discount on playground equipment. Staff said they will work with the public‑works department and PlayCore on design and community outreach prior to installation.
Staff also reported maintenance issues at Granada Park: two tennis-post anchors on Court 1 were found broken, leaving the court unavailable for tennis and removing the net; the court remains removed from the reservation system until repairs are completed. Staff said they had a contractor inspect the site.
The department recapped a recent Cormorant family campout event with about 110 registered participants, praised volunteers including the Lions Club and said a small sprinkler malfunction in the night caused limited disruption. Staff noted the community center’s newly refreshed parking area, new picnic tables and pathways completed in time for school opening, and several upcoming events including a Cove movie night, a pumpkin‑carving event and the Turkey Trot.
Staff said the Town Park playground equipment design and procurement will include community outreach and that final design decisions would return to the commission for input.
